Do not get confused on types of family planning methods, a comprehensive listing of available family planning and contraceptive types have been listed below to help you make a informed decision. The choice of one method  of contraception against the other  depend on  individual medical condition  and the taste of an individual or partner, the most common method of family planning is hormonal method except condom  followed by mechanical exclusive of condom. The most reliable method is surgical method and the most unreliable method are natural methods. Type of family planning and contraceptives can largely be divided into four categories

NATURAL METHODS OF FAMILY PLANNING AND CONTRACEPTIVES METHODS IN KENYA



It is called natural because it does not involve use of drug or device it is purely natural the following are the available method or types of natural family planning methods
 

INTRAUTERINE  CONTRACEPTIVE  DEVICE  (IUCD)  FAMILY PLANNING AND  CONTRACEPTIVES  METHODS IN KENYA


This  type of family planning method  involves use of  devices which may sometime have some form of drug(hormone ) attached to it ,there mode of function is by placing a barrier  so that sperm does not get into the fallopian tube to fertilize the woman’s egg. BARRIER METHODS OF CONTRACEPTION AND FAMILY PLANNING IN KENYA


These method or type of family planning include;
  • Male and Female Condoms
  • Spermicides
  • Diaphragms
  • Cervical Caps
Whereas condoms, diaphragms, and cervical caps are mechanical barriers, spermicides are chemicals that interfere with the movement of the sperm and its ability to fertilise the egg.
Currently in Kenya, the use of diaphragms, cervical caps, and spermicides is negligible. In addition, scientifi c evidence has shown that repeated and high-dose use of the spermicide nonoxynol-9 might cause vaginal and cervical irritation or abrasions, which could increase the risk of infection with HIV.
                         

 HORMONAL METHODS OF FAMILY PLANNING AND CONTRACEPTIVE METHODS IN KENYA


This is the most common used method or type of family planning and contraceptive after condom, they include hormone taken orally or by injection or implanted to prevent development and maturation of woman’s eggs (ovum’s), the following are available hormonal family planning methods and contraceptive, if you questions concerning any type of family planning you can write to us in any form or consult in site or like this site. Common hormonal family planning and Contaceptive methods in Kenya


These methods are less commonly available in Kenya

  • Combined injectable contraceptives (see Injectable Contraceptives ). 
  • Combined contraceptive (skin) patch (Evra), 
  • Combined vaginal contraceptive ring (NuvaRing), which releases a daily dose of hormone when the ring is placed high up in the vagina.  
                          

VOLUNTARY SURGICAL CONTRACEPTION


Apart from use of condom this another area in which men can contribute to family planning directly. The following are the available surgical family planning methods

    1. Chances of conceiving when one is on coil is less than 1 percent i.e it is not possible to get pregnant when one coil

  6. can the coil interefere with your menses that is can they become irregular mostly a month after insertation or feel nauseatic and stomach cramps?
